To our surprise, Rudi replied that it was not his. He graciously said he would not object to us using it but felt we should get permission from the artist him or herself.
Tracking her down took another couple of hours.
Betsy had posted a photograph of her painting on website with mention of the Hurzlmeier original, which is why we could see it in search results. We jumped through hoops to figure out a way to contact her. When we finally connected, Betsy was of course concerned about copyright. After all, hers was a work of fan art and certainly not meant for anything other than her own living room. In the end, since we already had Rudi's blessing, Betsy agreed. We were all smiles.
There is no better image for portraying how we view ourselves. In many ways the title of the album also developed from the painting. Suddenly everything fit. What you might not know (we didn't) is that Betsy Niederer is not only a talented painter, she has been making astonishingly beautiful and life-like miniatures for many years. You can view her work online here. Thank you so much, Betsy, for allowing us to use your version of the crow. It's simply perfect.
We hope you'll check out Rudi Hurzlmeier's incredible body of work here and also visit his website at http://www.hurzlmeier-rudi.de
