Last night we were in Willamina at the Wildwood Hotel in the alley. It was windy and chilly, but the crowd stuck it out to the end and seemed to enjoy every note (even the ones we messed up!) . They were just simply wonderful, and we thank everyone for coming and staying. Tshirt sales and CD sales over the weekend were great - which means that the necessities like strings and microphones can be purchased in the near future. New mics - mostly for better quality recordings - have been on our list ever since we finished up Hope & Truth & Dare last year.
So... the BIG news: Practices as a foursome begin this coming weekend! We're preparing for our first big concert in Portland at Culmination Brewery on November 14th.
Dave Gager, the extraordinary talent who contributed the drum tracks for the album, has joined the band. His excitement for the album was a huge compliment and inspiration, and having him join us for live performances is truly a blessing. Dave started playing drums at the ripe old age of 11, influenced after watching The Beatles cartoons every Saturday morning. When his 5th grade band teacher politely informed him that guitar wasn’t an option in the class, he decided on the drums, since that was another instrument played in rock & roll bands. Dave has been recording and performing with a host of regional, national and world-class musicians since the early 80's, dividing his time between studio sessions and touring, before settling with his family on the beautiful northern Oregon coast in 2001. Dave continues to record drum tracks in his small, but potent home recording studio (check out Bent Rabbit), and has become an in-demand session player for musicians of every genre worldwide, as well as providing drum lessons to students at every skill level. Dave is an official endorser of DMR Custom Drums (www.dmrcustomdrums.com).
More BIG news: We're excited to welcome bass player and vocalist Michael Simpson to the band. Mike is currently a music teacher (Mr. Simpson) for Neah-Kah-Nie School District #56 in Rockaway Beach, Oregon. For nearly 20 years he has inspired and continues to inspire countless young people to pursue song and music. He is also a singer/songwriter/composer/multi-instrumentalist. A local favorite on the Oregon coast, a member of the wildly popular former Oyster Shooters, member of Dr. Love (and many bands before), Mike has been playing bass guitar since he was 13 years old and plans on continuing his musical endeavors for years to come. Welcome, Mike!
So now we are four. Will we have to change the name? One that's been stuck in my head for some time (Jane, here) is "Two Crows Joy & Seven Secrets". Well, we'll figure it out, right? For now we're all wood-shedding our parts using recordings, and we'll be getting together for as many weekend afternoons as we can between now and November 14th. After that, the sky's the limit!
