The music business has evolved, and holding together a full band, while it may have always been a challenge, seems to have become much harder to do. Sincere gratitude to Darwin Turner, our bass player, who has dedicated his time to practicing with us and, we sincerely hope, is committed to working with us going forward. Also a shout out to Evan Jiroudek, the most talented drummer we have ever worked with, who stepped in, quickly got up to speed, and added more to the quality of the performances than we even thought possible.
The challenge, now, is finding bookings for the full band that will allow us to pay both Darwin and Evan well enough to keep them engaged. On the surface that might not look like such a big difficulty for a band that plays awesome original songs (audiences agree, they're awesome!), but the challenges multiply when there's no agent to represent the band. The members have to work, and finding the time to pursue bookings is difficult, sometimes impossible. Timing is everything, competition is fierce, and a missed contact deadline is a missed opportunity.
So what do we do next?
1) Finish recording two of the most popular songs: Another Trip Around the Sun and Willamina. Those two are the front runners right now, but Time or any number of others would also be good.
2) Create a professional video for the best of the two and market it like crazy.
3) While those songs gain traction (in a perfect world), we record and polish another 8 tracks for the second CD.
4) Will the singles releases help us get an booking agent? (Where is that perfect world when you need it?)
And so recording is the next order of business. Our first Saturdays at WineKraft are a highlight, and perhaps we will be lucky enough to have Darwin and Evan join us again for one of those evenings.
For today we relax. Hope to see you at Winekraft!
